Directed, co-written, and co-produced by George Miller, the film is the fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise. Serving as both a prequel and spin-off to Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), Furiosa delves into the origins of Imperator Furiosa, portrayed by Charlize Theron in the previous installment. In this iteration, Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne embody younger versions of Furiosa, while Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke add to the cast.

Set against the backdrop of a crumbling world, young Furiosa is abducted from the Green Place of Many Mothers and thrust into the clutches of the formidable Warlord Dementus, portrayed by Hemsworth. Amidst the chaos of a Wasteland torn apart by warring tyrants, including the infamous Immortan Joe, Furiosa embarks on a perilous journey, facing numerous challenges as she seeks to find her way back home. Despite initial plans for back-to-back production with Fury Road, Furiosa faced years of development delays due to contractual disputes. However, Miller eventually brought the project to fruition, reuniting with key crew members from Fury Road. Principal photography occurred in Australia from June to October 2022. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on 15 May 2024, garnering positive reviews. It hit theaters in Australia on 23 May 2024, followed by a release in the United States the next day.
